My journey and plans in academia and research.
I have obtained my PhD in 2022 from the University of Manchester (UK), where I have received a prestigious President’s doctoral scholarship to fund my work. My thesis was focused on construction and quality assurance of the VELO detector modules for the LHCb Upgrade I, but also design and evaluation of possible future detectors for the LHCb Upgrade II. My doctoral thesis was later awarded by the LHCb collaboration for its quality and significant contribution to the upgrade of the experiment. In parallel to my work, I continued in my previous studies focused on commissioning a Tpx3Cam – an optical camera with a very precise timestamping using technologies developed by the high energy physics community. My contributions led to a take-up of this new imager in the fields ranging from molecular dynamics all the way to quantum technologies.
Afterwards, and just before joining FZU in 2024, I have finished my work at CERN (CH) as a senior fellow where I mainly worked on development and testing of single-die bonding of hybrid silicon pixel detectors – a necessary process requested by many physicists which enables fast prototyping of the new devices. My contributions helped with the technology evaluation and feasibility, and established path for different international collaborations that contribute to the work. I was an important team member responsible for the maintenance of a Timepix3 based beam telescope, corresponding data-taking and final analysis. The collaborative effort resulted in characterisation of numerous pixel detector technology demonstrators and established necessary stepping stone for the future projects.
More recently, my work has expanded towards development and characterisation of Low-Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) fabricated from 4H-SiC material. This research aims to exploit the superior radiation hardness and fast charge collection properties of silicon carbide to extend LGAD performance into environments and applications where conventional silicon devices face limitations. My involvement includes the design, testing, and modelling of prototypes to understand signal formation, timing response, and avalanche gain stability under high radiation doses.
In parallel, I continue to explore applications of time-resolved imaging in the visible-light and quantum domains. Building upon the Tpx3Cam developments, my work investigates novel methods for quantum imaging and quantum astrometry — techniques that exploit photon correlations and precise time tagging to achieve beyond-classical spatial and temporal resolution. These approaches promise new opportunities not only in quantum optics laboratories but also in astronomy, enabling precision measurements of stellar positions and dynamics using quantum-enhanced imaging modalities.

Throughout my career, I have been honoured to receive several awards and recognitions for my contributions to the field of semiconductor pixel detector technologies and their applications. These awards reflect the dedication, innovation, and impact of my work, and inspire me to continue pushing the boundaries of knowledge and discovery.
